What a Fantastic Way To Help Others!

Day 7:

Boys and girls helping others in your community by donating items needed is a FANTASTIC idea!  What a great way to help others in need!  I will be more than happy to deliver these items for you, but I’m going to need a little help balancing my sleigh!  I know this will not be a problem for you guys because you all are so smart!  Please take a look at my sleigh and see where each package needs to be placed, 25 packages is a lot!!   Have Mrs. Wantz help you use a balance to see how many packages can sit on each side of my sleigh.  I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Working together!

Day 6

GREAT!!!  I knew you were a special group of boys and girls!  Talk with Mrs. Wantz and discuss some ways you can help, contribute, and make a positive impact your local community.   Let me know what you decide!

You Guys Are The Best

Day 6

I knew you guys would say “yes!”

Good choices affect the people around you, your community, and on a larger scale- the world!!  A community works together to help others in need.  Can all of MVES first graders come together to help those in need located in your community?

Hard work pays off

Day 6:

Thank you for all your hard work last week!  It looks like the Santa Files are complete and I can be on my way to Sweden when Christmas Eve comes without any problems!   I still need a little help with things in your local community though…. are you willing to help a little more?

Our Swedish Tree and St. Lucia and starboy

Dear Santa,

We learned about straw ornaments on the Swedish trees and that the people in Sweden decorate their trees with Swedish flags and gnomes and real candles!   We also learned that they dont put up their tree until 2 days before Christmas.  Another cool fact that we studied about is Saint Lucia and Star Boys.  The boys and girls dress up and like St. Lucia and the star boy 13 days before christmas.  This is because they celebrate the giving that St. Lucia did.  We are also giving- just like St. Lucia.  We have been working hard on our donations to the needy!

Love,

Christmas in Sweden

Day 5:

Whew!  Your hard work is really paying off!  I almost have all the information I need to plan and complete my trip to Sweden on Christmas Eve!  The last thing I need you to do is learn about the holiday traditions associated with Christmas with Sweden.  How does the country celebrate Christmas?  Just list a few fun facts for me in the Santa Files, I’m sure each of you will tell me some very interesting facts about Christmas in Sweden!  Also, If you could put up a Swedish Christmas tree in your classroom and take a picture, I will know what to expect and where to put the Christmas presents.   Make sure you tell me about the differences between American and Swedish Christmas trees!

So much fun learning Swedish

We have had a lot of fun making the Santa Files and learning about the Swedish clothes and toys.  We have been learning hard about Swedish language and some of the words sound funny.  The elf you sent has been great.  We played Blindbock at recess today, it was so fun and awesome.  We also had fun learning the new Swedish Dance Sma Grodorna.  We videoed ourself dancing to show you.  We also have a special greeting for you!  We learned how to say "Hej Tomte, hur mar du?"  That means "Hello Santa, how are you?"  in swedish!  Thank you Santa for sending hte elf, the elf is in the first ABC word, and he is holding a marker.

Love,
Mrs. Wantz's Class

So Glad My Helper Arrived!

Day 4

Great work MVES first graders, you guys are a smart bunch and I am so glad that I asked you to help out this year!  Chocolate is nice name, and from the looks of things- Chocolate is fitting right in at MVES!  Today I need to learn a little more about the language spoken in Sweden.  Are there any important words you think I should know?  Can you please create a word list and dictionary for me?  Just put the dictionary in your Santa Files and ask Mrs. Wantz to post a picture of the word list to the blog.   Thanks again for all your help boys and girls!

Santa
PS-  Glad you enjoyed playing Blindbock!

We received Santa's Special Gift!

Dear Santa,

We recieved your gift!  We are so excited!  We decided to name him Chocolate, and we promise not to touch him!  Some of the other names we thought about were Oliver, Sneaky, and Snowflake.   We are sure he will be right home in our classroom.  This morning we were excited to see him hanging from our flag! We also enjoyed learning about the different toys and games in Sweden yesterdy.  We played Blindbock in class.  Bye Santa

Keep working hard!

Day 3:

Hello boys and girls!  Thank you for your hard work yesterday!  It looks like your Santa Files are off to a great start as you gather all of this information.  Today I will need your help with the presents I should plan to take to the boys and girls in Sweden.  I would like to know a little more about the toys and clothes that Swedish boys and girls like to play with and wear.  Also, what type of games do they like to play?  You can post your answers here, and I will read them tonight!
Santa

PS-  I hope you got my package!

I knew I could count on you!!

Day 2:

Great work so far first graders!  I knew I could count on you to get the job done!  Today, I would like for you to take a look at some famous landmarks in Sweden.  I will need a bit more information for my flight plan.  I am not sure if I will be trying to land my sleigh during the day or night time, so I will need you locate a landmark and draw a picture of what the landmark would like against the night sky AND the day sky.  Also, I would like to know more about the food people eat in Sweden.  Can you give me a few examples?  You can draw a large picture of the landmark, and post it here.  One last thing, should I expect milk and cookies on Christmas Eve?

Santa
PS- I heard you were asking for me to send an Elf to the classroom.  I'll see who I can find! ;)

Santa Needs Your Help!

Day 1

Hello first graders!!  Santa here, or Tomte, as the children in Sweden call me!  As you know, I have asked MVES first graders to help me out this year since my elves are feeling a little under the weather. I hope you completed the Elf Application I left on your desk this morning!  I have decided it would be best if I give each class a different country to learn about and report back to me with all the information I need for the BIG night!! I would like your help with Sweden.   Make sure you put all your information in your Santa Files and have Mrs. Wantz post information to this website, that way I can check back here or your file any time I need to.  Also, keep a check on the other classroom’s countries too!  You never know when I may need you to help me out with information from Mexico, Germany, or other countries around the world!  I really appreciate all of your help this year, and helping others is great way to start this holiday season!

Today, I would like for you learn where Sweden is located in our world.  I will need a flight plan from the North Pole to Sweden.  I would also like you to learn what their Flag looks like, draw it, and have Mrs. Wantz take a picture and report back to me- just so I can make sure that I am in the right country!  I think my elves put together a little slide show about Sweden- look at the link below to view the Santa Files!

Thank you for your important work first graders!
